A Weird Sound Like Gunfire, but Probably Not...at The Lazy Vegan

For most of the afternoon the peace was disturbed today at The Lazy Vegan by what I thought was gunfire going off constantly...but the foreman thinks it might have been a well being drilled with big equipment. Whatever it was, it was very loud and boomed across the valley and made the donkeys very skittish! I went to give them their carrots, and every time the sound went off they both jumped back. Paco was especially sensitive to it. Aside from that, it was a mellow & beautiful day. I spent the morning doing a "deep cleaning" in the pasture and the donks "helped". I'm hoping that cleaning up all this manure will make the flies go elsewhere- they've really been a pain this year. I'm expecting a shipment of "fly predators" to arrive in tomorrow's mail...I think they definitely help keep the fly population down. Today marks the THIRD WEEK anniversary of NO COFFEE for me- a milestone! I miss the routine but have come up with quite a few coffee substitutes so I don't feel too deprived!
I got the Kitchenaid stand mixer assembled. Here it is, the Darth Vader of the kitchen!

I bought fresh, brand-new clothespins today- a big thrill! The clothesline is all spiffed up now, ready to hang some clothes on.

Bravo checks in with Boulder.

At carrot treat time- Paco was very upset by the loud noise.

I think Solo was, too- he kept howling!

Bravo inspects the construction zone upstairs!

The new wall will have a pocket door that opens up to the shower/toilet.

The construction zone mess!
I think the birds were bothered by the noise today, too.

Some self-timed photos with the animals. Solo declined to have his taken. He was too busy watching everyone else while in his little bed in the living room.

Boulder was just barely putting up with this.

This is by far the best coffee substitute I've come across. Whole Foods sells it, but they're not very obvious about it- I had to ask for it. You have to brew it in a regular coffee pot or with a French Press. There is absolutely no caffeine...but there is carob, so if you don't like carob- even a slight taste of it- you probably won't like this!

Earlier in the day before the obnoxious noise started.
A deer crossed my path (and Beetler's!) on our way home today. Thankfully I was going slow and it was on our road. The deer was very casual and sauntered off.

One of my favorite plants is blooming- the Metea poppy.

Boulder and Bravo dine together in the kitchen.

Not Much New to Report on a Saturday at The Lazy Vegan

"Hey, Weeg...when does the band set up???" (Bored donkeys midday!)
Not a heck of a lot going on at The Lazy Vegan today. No working crew - Paul left and won't be back until he returns from his NY trip. The foreman played in a tennis match and aside from my weekly run/bike ride with Snap, I didn't get a lot of exercise. I suppose you could count scooping up manure exercise, however...and I did plently of that. The foreman and I went out to eat at our favorite restaurant, Slice of Life. And that's about it for the day!
Coming in for carrot treat time!

Solo howls!

Boulder takes a late afternoon nap at the bottom of the bed.
Somehow this photo makes Boulder's head look HUGE. There's a new neighborhood cat that has been brazenly coming onto our property lately. As much as I love cats, I scare him off every time I see him because I don't want any friction with poor old Boulder. Today I ran across the front yard to shoo him away and twisted my ankle in the process. The donkeys watched the whole thing. They actually looked a bit AMUSED.
I got a Kitchenaid Stand Mixer...I've wanted one of these for the longest time, and now that I'm whipping up gourmet vegan meals, it will really come in handy! Haven't set it up yet, as you can see.

From yesterday...the working crew!

First photo of the day...two crows chatting on the fence.

The Red-Orange Dragonfly Visits Again & Building "The Wall" at The Lazy Vegan

I love this dragonfly that has been hanging out a lot lately at The Lazy Vegan (could it be Dan again??). He or she just suddenly appears at different times of the day...today it was at lunch time when I went to check on the donkeys. He/she whizzes by and all I notice at first is a spot of brilliant red/orange. I was able to get close for some photos. During all this dragonfly activity, the working crew was laboring away, painting and building what we're now referring to as The Wall in the upstairs bathroom ("The Wall" because they've talked about it for a long time and now are finally actually building it!). I forgot some of the finer moments of living in a home during a remodel...while I was cooking dinner, sawdust from upstairs came sprinkling down through the slats of the upstairs floor and fell down on the stove below!
Beautiful color!! I love the eyes.
If you double click on the photos you can see more detail.

Paul oiled the clothesline today and suddenly it is like a work of art!

That's Paul on the roof, not the foreman...I have been teasing them because their work outfits are exactly the same.

Getting ready to build The Wall.

My weekly trip to the Nightengale Bread Bakery in Forestville...it is hard to resist!

The vegan dress shoes I ordered arrived in the mail today...perfect for weddings and other dressy events- most of my other vegan shoes are too clunky!

Paul visits the working crew and gets a pet from Paul and from the hammer!

Boulder and Bravo get ready to nap together.

My almost-twelve-years-old Solo!

Paul shows off his fine painting technique.

Another visit from Karina! She helped me make lunch.

It was some serious lounging time early this morning.

Weegie demonstrates his yoga move. This one is called "the donkey"!

Paco has really been a lazy little donkey at The Lazy Vegan lately!
