The Last Week of February at The Lazy Vegan

The last week of February was filled with some storms and some sunshine! We had a very stormy day where the wind was the worst I've ever seen it here. I came home to find Paco & Luigi OUT of their barn and standing huddled together at the far side of the pasture. I couldn't figure out why they weren't in their barn...but as soon as I headed out there in my rain gear (with carrots!), I found out why- as I turned the corner in the pasture the wind nearly knocked me over. I was able to coax Luigi into the barn with a carrot but Paco refused to budge! And it is IMPOSSIBLE to move a donkey! Finally a carrot did the trick and he slowly walked the fairly long distance through the wind to get into the barn. In other Lazy Vegan news, I experimented making some "faux" milks this weekend, and found a recipe for cashew milk that is outrageously good! Yum, yum, yum. You'd never miss milk from a cow with this one (and the cow can keep her own milk!). Cashew milk! It is DELICIOUS!! Bravo hoped he'd get to try some, too!
CASHEW MILK
1/2 cup raw cashew pieces (I bought organic raw cashews (unsalted) in bulk foods at Whole Foods)
2 cups water
1 tablespoon maple syrup (I used agave nectar syrup)

1. Combine cashews with one cup water and sweetener in blender.Blend on high to form a thick cream.
2. Slowly add remaining water and blend on high for 2 - 5 minutes. SUPER EASY! Tastes even better after it has been in the fridge for a while.

I made a big batch! I also made rice milk, and that was good, too. But cashew milk is way creamier.

After the storm, a lot of much-needed relaxation in the sunshine was going on.

Weegie was sighing when I took his photo!

Dust bath time!

A little grooming here and there.
Never more than ten feet or so away from one another!
The family of cows across the way enjoyed the sunshine, too.

The donkeys were super playful this week as soon as the sun appeared!

Heck, ALL the creatures enjoyed the blue skies!

Boulder, king of the clouds.

Wasabi spent one of the days down in the kitchen. She was very helpful while I cooked- she would toss her spoon around! We did have a mishap when she was using her litter box and I turned on the blender...the noise sent her flying! She hid out in her cottage for a while but soon recovered.

Fun with a new big box!
We see this sight so many times...she'll be hopping around and then will stop by to "check in" with her "baby"!

And the donkeys often check in with one another.

Evening lounging time for pups and cat.

Bravo's post from...ahem...the kitchen table!

More dust baths!

The donkeys doing their English guard poses...they will stand like this for nearly 30 minutes at time!

VERY playful donkeys with a lot of honking and running around going on!

I love it when a neighbor will drive by and see the boys running and playing...they always slow down their cars for a look!

This was the day after one of the storms- you can see all the flood water.

Boulder prepares to settle down for a nap.

Sunlit cactus.

Solo trudges up the drive.

For such an old pup, Solo really gets around!

Wasabi in her usual pose.

"Uh, this is just the appetizer, right?"

Practically a lake in our front yard!

It has been a good month...looking forward to what March will bring!

Hanging Around with the Animals at The Lazy Vegan

It was a mellow week at The Lazy Vegan with several days of wonderful sunshine for the animal crew to lounge around in before the rains came back. Boulder picked his favorite outdoor chair to nap in on the sunny days, and when it started to rain he lounged on the foreman's shoulders! Wasabi came down to the kitchen for the first time since she was spayed back in December. After adjusting to her new surroundings, she had a fine time hopping about and checking things out...although she is NOT a fan of being picked up!

Claire came for a visit and the animals (and all of us) were happy to see her!

Getting kisses from the bunny.

Wasabi scoots into her "Ton O' Fun Bun Run" before Claire can pet her.

Munching on a paper bag.

Inside the Ton O' Fun Bun Run tunnel!

Checking out the kitchen from the security of her Magic Dream Cottage!

The foreman brings Wasabi downstairs. She really hates being picked up but I think she looks adorable in his arms.

The peach tree is blossoming!

A moment with Paco.

Love the teeth!

Weegie takes grazing very seriously.

Some puppy fun at dusk.

Boulder comes in close to check out my camera!

Grooming time.

Snuggle time on the couch!

Boulder on his favorite outdoor chair.

The turks came by to say hi.

Luigi yawns in the sunshine!

The corral and pasture got a bit dried out with the sun...now it is back to mud as I type this. But the boys had fun running around for most of the week.

A rare sighting of the true "Woody Woodpecker" bird! (Pileated woodpecker). I was only able to snap a few photos before he was on to me and took off squawking that trademark call.
