Fun & Games on the Last Weekend of August at the Lazy Vegan

The foreman takes a rare nap on the terrace!
It is hard to believe we're nearing the end of August! The animals were all up BEFORE the crack of dawn every day this week. Maybe it was due to the full moon or maybe they just wanted to get an early start to the day! On one of the mornings I woke up the donkeys and actually video taped this exciting event. See the movie at the bottom of this posting. I apologize in advance to the blog reader for the length (about 3 minutes long)...but toward the end I do manage to capture Paco yawning...the rest of the video is pretty dark and boring...but, HEY! That's the way it is in real life! The next time I try to film the donkeys stretching and yawning in the wee hours of the morning I'll have to wake up the foreman so he can come with me and hold a flashlight!
Boulder gets some quality attention from the foreman.

Wasabi likes to position herself so she has an eye on the comings & goings of the household.

Toby in a spot of sunlight!

At the bunny playground today. That's actually NOT Wasabi in the litterbox...but is a little Wasabi-look-alike named Nicolas. He's the bun who was abandoned in a box at the Humane Society a few months ago. Since then he's been neutered and socialized and he is MUCH calmer than he was. He keeps trying to befriend Wasabi...but much to my horror, she chased and tried to nip him TWICE today!

Wasabi says hello to another look-alike. These were three bunnies being kept separate from the rest of the crew while they wait to be spayed.

Nicolas is adorable and he let me pet him for a long time while Wasabi sulked in a nearby tunnel!

Nicolas kept going up to sniff noses with Wasabi. At one point she decided she had her fill of it.

The boys help me put fresh pine shavings in the barn!

But first, Weegie had to mark his spot!

He's been doing this peeing-in-barn routine since day one. I don't know why they can't pee out in the pasture!!

Sometimes Toby gets so desperate for a ball toss that he'll bring the ball over to Boulder.

Boulder rarely shows ANY interest in Toby's ball!

The last of the sunflowers to bloom.

A dragonfly on the windowseat. I rescued it, of course.

Enjoying a fresh plate of greens!

Oh, yum. Dill!

Toby even tried the ball routine on the bunny!

The donks were super helpful this week!

I especially like it when they stand around and "supervise" while I clean out the barn!

Heading in for sweet grain time!

I call this "performance art" when Wasabi eats hay like this!

LOOK who gets to walk without a leash! Bravo went to the vet and he said he could go off leash now as long as we make sure he doesn't jump from high places. That pretty much means I'll still have to keep him on a leash while he continues to heal...because he can sneak off so fast. He enjoyed some leash-free time, though!
Bravo has lost count of the number of times he's gone to the vet! And so have I.

Those helpful donks again!

Paco patiently waits for dinner.
Boulder is such a pro at lounging!

Wasabi poses with Buddy Bunny. It cracks me up how she'll hop over and sit right next to her buddy!

Wasabi accepts a piece of carrot from Paul.

Checking in with Bravo...who adores Paul!

Signs of Fall in August at The Lazy Vegan

With my sweet Boulder. I forgive him for walking me up at 3 a.m. sometimes!!
Another week has passed with the animal crew! No emergency visits to the vet or anything like that...so I would consider it a mellow week (although I'm still up at the crack of dawn tending to the cat or one of the dogs, etc.!). The evenings have been super cool and the oak trees are dropping acorns like crazy...you would think that Fall had arrived! The lizards are out everywhere - I think they're trying to soak up as much sun as possible before the season ends. This weekend was the annual Sonoma County Airshow. We got our own little show as the huge military jets and some of the small bi-planes flew by...we are actually on one of the flight paths! I saw three planes fly over our house in formation. Pretty cool. Even the donkeys looked up for that event!

You wouldn't really know from these photos, but Wasabi DETESTS being held. Absolutely hates it. So we have to be very quick with the photos. Once we put her down, she'll hop off in a huff!

I love her back feet - HUGE! Lately one of her favorite things to do is to hop quickly over the foreman when he sits on the couch for a pet. We call it the "hop-to-pop" game!

She senses that something's up. She absolutely knows when it is time to do what we call the "transfer" (we have to have a name for everything around here. That's part of the fun!)...when we take her from her "kitchen playground" upstairs to her "bunny apartment"!

This face means she's on to us.

The donkeys stop to check in with one another. Of course, they do this hundreds of times during the day!

This little lizard saw me coming and quickly found some cover.

Toby has perfected this woe-is-me-nobody-will-toss-my-ball look.

Boulder poses.

A cute vintage Beetle I saw when I met Snap in Graton!

Karina stopped by to see us at the office.

Toby loves this ridiculous stuffed bone that I had bought for the canine patient over a month ago. He'll bring it and set it outside Wasabi's gate. The funny thing is that she seems interested in playing!

Of all the places in the kitchen that she could hang out in, Wasabi loves to pick the one closest to where the dogs are.

Relaxing in one of her many boxes.

It is a good idea to lounge next to the litterbox. You never know when you have to go!

Paco stirs up some dust.

HERE'S some exciting news: CONGRATULATIONS to Nick...he is now the proud owner of his own coffee shop! We visited him early in the week and will be back as often as we can. Even though I don't drink coffee, I can order tea!

Getting a tour.

He's the perfect person for this ...friendly and enthusiastic!

Wasabi plots her revenge for being held so much. Maybe some extra loud thumps!

Enjoying some evening breezes out on her private balcony. Everything upstairs now belongs to Wasabi. Except for the bathroom...that is off limits.
Boulder likes to go up and down the driveway. Silly cat!

I love how the lizards will turn their head when I take a photo. I think they're listening to the funny noises the camera makes.

Paco and the foreman.

Handsome Luigi!

Remember those baby turkeys I blogged about a few months ago? Here they are looking for a morning snack - quite a bit bigger!

I confess that sometimes I go back to sleep in the morning...especially on the days when I'm up at 3 a.m.! The foreman snapped this one morning. What a crew! Solo likes his own bed. I think he's smart!
