What a great surprise I had this week! As I was sitting at my desk feeling, well, housebound (because I am), I started to receive quite a few texts from my sister. That in itself is not unusual since we communicate via texts on a daily basis. But these texts were more of the inquiring kind ("so...what time is the nurse coming today?", etc.), which I later realized was so she could figure out what my schedule was! But the text that really threw me off was when she texted me a photo...of MY donkeys! My mind raced to figure out this oddity, and as I was texting her back something like "that's weird; you just texted me a photo of MY donkeys", I happened to look out the window to see Patty and Anthony rounding the top of our driveway on foot with a soy latte for ME! WOW! Not only a surprise visit (for those who don't know, they live nearly 3 hours away!), but a latte, too! They only stayed for a brief time but the really sweet gesture made my week - and the huge latte lasted me all day! In other Lazy Vegan news, we continue to care for Julie as the days progress...check out her poem of the week at the end of this post! Also, was very happy to discover that after I replaced all the batteries in my three critter cams that I suddenly was back to getting night videos - which had dramatically dropped off in the past few weeks. Apparently the cameras still function on less battery power, although not as well...but once replaced I suddenly had tons of videos of night and day time critters, including two absolutely beautiful videos of a bobcat and a few of a very determined Possum!
Now that Patty's a "puppy mama", she has renewed interest in our dogs!
A quick hello to the rabbit, too...
Anth is a natural dog guy.
Headed back down to where they had cleverly parked their car so I would REALLY be surprised!
Thanks again, Pat & Anth! It was a very nice thing to do to cheer me up!
Whenever Wasabi is presented with something new, such as this box from Grandma Snap, she has to "chin" it to make it her own!
The massive tree trimming job continues! This was really necessary - some of the oak branches were rotting and in danger of falling.
Plus, we'll have lots of firewood for cozy Winter days!
Wasabi was not that happy with the constant sound of the chainsaws going...
The foreman, a.k.a. Mickey Mouse!
Julie's sunflower barely hanging in there.
I briefly toyed with making masks out of medical supply boxes this week, but after two days of it abandoned the hobby. Here, the foreman shows off one of my efforts.
Sometimes nothing beats a bowl of mixed greens for dinner.
Buck on Small TrailI've found the dog bed makes a nice little chair when I'm sitting with the crew!
Buds!
Two Possum Videos - check out his or her feet in the first one...too cute!
This is what I was wearing in the oak branch photos! I couldn't resist getting this head gear after all the massive tree trimming going on at the Lazy Vegan lately...
Without going into too much ridiculous detail (because there was a bit of a fiasco surrounding the delivery and more), Julie's memorial bench arrived. Of course, it is not yet a memorial bench - in fact, the plaque that we'd had inscribed with her name went missing in the shipping process, ironically...but the intent is that this will be a bench in honor of her after she passes...
It took a long time to assemble!
The mask project, all two days of it (and a total of twenty minutes).
Silly, silly squirrel!
How spoiled we are by Snap - another home cooked meal and assorted treats!
Those Adorable Fawns Again
Toby checks out Wasabi's stair technique.
Split Second Fox
Bravo was thrilled to see Paul!
Both Paul and Claire had a nice visit together with Julie, which made her day!
GET out of town with the cuteness factor!! I must remind my blog readers that they can access Sparky's blog via the link on this blog to the right. SO adorable!
Finally completed: the foreman checks out the new 8 foot long bench!
TWO POSSUM VIDEOS!
Confession is good for the soul and possibly other things...which is why I am posting photos of MORE online retail therapy (necklace above and scarf below) from the sale section of Anthropologie online!
The weekly pose!!!
Two Beautiful Bobcat Videos!
Judith and Claire by the now-famous sunflower!
Raccoon - first one in a while
Julie's Poem of the Week:
Edna St. Vincent Millay (1923)
Euclid alone has looked on Beauty bare.
Let all who prate of Beauty hold their peace,
And lay them prone upon the earth and cease
To ponder on themselves, the while they stare
At nothing, intricately drawn nowhere
In shapes of shifting lineage; let geese
Gabble and hiss, but heroes seek release
From dusty bondage into luminous air.
O blinding hour, O holy, terrible day,
When first the shaft into his vision shone
Of light anatomized! Euclid alone
Has looked on Beauty bare. Fortunate they
Who, though once only and then but far away,
Have heard her massive sandal set on stone.
